Words of The Week is a list of words I have learned throughout the week. It helps me keep track of my expanding vocabulary and teaches us all something new.
This week’s edition will also include common phrases I have learned or like.
Enjoy!
“Pregnant Pause” – This is a detailed imaginary world that one creates. They can have their own languages, geography, and so much more.
“After a pregnant pause, she turned on The Muppets (1979).”
Chagrin – Distress caused by humiliation, disappointment, or failure.
“The AITA Redditor said a girl chagrined when he swore.”
“The Devil is in The Details” – Heard my professor say this, shout out to the Wittiest. It basically means something may seem simple on a surface level, but the individual details may be much harder to manage.
“Hear me once, believe me later” – My other professor who be #Wiggling said this. It means exactly what it says, one’s words will sink in later than when they were first told. It feels somewhat like an omen.
Elasmobranch – This is a scientific class of ancient fish including sharks, rays, and these ugly things called skates.
“I must reiterate, the ugliest in the elasmobranch bunch are skates.”
